The ProKids Foundation VS has provided a baby hatch in Villingen-Schwenningen, in our regional center. There, mothers in particular distress can anonymously place their babies in safe care. You then have 8 weeks to decide on your childbefore it is put up for adoption. This is intended as a last resort . The project was implemented together with the city of Villingen-Schwenningen, the Office for Youth and Social Affairs. The advice centers of Caritas, Diakonie and ProFamilia are available for help, even after it has been handed in.

“We see the baby hatch as last kind of emergency aid which, above all, has to be available locally and easily accessible, ”explains Joachim Spitz. The project was initiated on the basis of the basic humanitarian idea.

The baby hatch is in Schwenningen, in the centrally accessible Franziskusheim, Neckarstrasse 71
Installed. It can be easily reached on foot, by train, by bus or directly by car. The space is still anonymous enough so that the baby flap can be used inconspicuously when it is needed. The room with the flap is well tempered and a cot is available.

If a child is placed in the baby hatch, there is a delayed optical signal to the nursing staff at the Franziskusheim, as well as messages to various people who might be near the baby hatch. A person is on site in a few minutes and takes further steps. Professional help is then on hand within a very short time. Since 2012 we have already saved five newborns.
